Thank you. I will continue in this particular situation. I have known this young woman for many years and the attack against her is real. The only mistake she made (even admitted directly to me by the young man who is making her life hell) is to get caught up in an innocent kiss with another fellow while she was still dating this young man.

In the beginning, he was just blowing off steam and showing his emotion through rage. Now, weeks after the event (she is also a couple years younger than him) he has taken things far too far. This is also not the first time he has acted out in this manner...so there is a pattern of behaviour.

However, I heed your caution. His parents do not seem to understand the gravity of his actions...Thank you for your time and energy! Joy

Ah - welcome to the world of the 'hero' (you're the wrong gender to be a White Knight). Just a word of warning - all this can grind you down, and you have to be incredibly careful. I take it you are up to date with the Jessi Slaughter case, or Aurora Eller - or even the charming Giovanna Plowman or Samantha Marie? And be warned - I would say that at least 80-90% of the stuff you see on YouTube is fake. You may learn that from experience, and you may also learn why so many heroes end up going mad!
There's a Nietzsche quote, warning that if you look into the abyss, the abyss will gaze into you. Just be careful.
When I first entered the fray, I urged common sense and caution regarding the Amanda Todd case, and I put forward the case that the so-called stalker might be innocent. This was met with death threats, threats of violence and horrendous online activity. When I got closer to the truth about Amanda Todd - the many online videos - I was accused of being a killer, a predator - all for the crime of 'knowing too much'.
When I have taken a soft approach, nobody pays any attention. If I say that 100s of young girls are voluntarily going online and stripping each night, the naysayers shrug and say I'm exaggerating. When I show them the evidence, the same people go mad and say I should never reveal it. If I put forward a thoughtful, evidence-backed case, people say I am a liar - when I provide the proof, they get angry.
A lot of what I have said deliberately provokes - it gets a reaction, and of those people who react, a small percentage actually learn something. If I write a bland piece, nobody reacts and nobody learns anything.
Good luck in your endeavours.

This is similar to the situation I am still facing here on my little island. The young woman is continuing to be harassed and even though I compiled all of the information necessary to take action, the RCMP dropped the ball because it was me rather than her parents who submitted the complaint and the incriminating evidence.

It has been incredibly frustrating. When I recently called back to get an update and ask why the video attacking this young woman is still on Youtube, the officer said it was none of my business because I am not the young woman's parent. Even though I am acting with this young woman's blessing and best interest in mind.

I appreciate your intention...your approach (blaming, judging and even verbally attacking) I understand, but find that it puts me off. It makes me feel less likely to honour what you say...but that's just me :-) In my opinion, sites like the one you are mentioning should be shut down and all people who are profiting from the exposure of underage and/or adults who are posted without consent should be criminally charged.

If you choose to continue, it is my recommendation that you take a deep breath and find a more balanced way to express yourself (similar to the tone of this comment). I believe you will find more success. Thank you for your intention...and for your time and energy!

From my heart to yours,

Thanks for remaining polite. My terseness is really inexcusable, but I just get rather tired of how little people know of the full Amanda Todd story, and how it wasn't really about cyber-bullying, and never gets to grips with the core problems.
My first problem with Mrs. Todd is this:
“At the end of her video, Amanda held up a card that read: “I have nobody, I need someone.”
Carol says she didn’t understand why Amanda wrote that, but she never asked.”
Read more: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Stories/813152/story.html#ixzz2KEskahsG
That was just one mistake.

This is a verbatim quote from Mrs. Todd:
‘So, looking through all the pictures of Amanda and her friends, I was happy to see her in good times, fun times, drunk times and even stoned times. Yes, she told me about the times she ‘blazed’. I commend her for being honest with me. There are still alot of her friends that find it hard to talk to their moms and/or dads. Amanda’s blazing was just a small piece of her life and problems. As we all say ‘We (as parents) pick our battles, and that wasn’t one I was picking.’ She wasn’t operating machinery or driving a car. So it wasn’t such a big one to me. Also, my friends who are parents and are around my age, what exactly did you do when you were in your mid-teens? I know that I wasn’t exactly honest with my parents and I did things that were quite similar to what teens do today. Did you? Now be honest with yourself… LOL!!!’
I find this slightly odd. OK, maybe Mrs Todd accepted marijuana smoking and drunkenness, but for a very vulnerable 15 year old young girl? You decide. Don't you think it might have been better to issue warnings.
Now for the clincher. You might want to read my blog. We know that Amanda was almost a professional online (Google BlogTV, cutiielover, and so on). But I would appreciate your view of one post that has garnered a lot of interest from me - none from the Todd supporters:

This comment is much more well rounded than the last one. The last one simply shut me down, but I am hearing you. I appreciate you sharing with me your perception. Actually, Amanda Todd is likely the name that is more present in my mind because I live in BC.

When I was researching cyber bullying, it was the case that came to light. I will do more research, but I still support the intention of Carol's campaign and I have personally seen the positive effects. I think I may be slightly more in touch with the effects because I am dealing with RCMP in the same province.

The whole reason that restorative justice was available to the young woman in our community is because of the Amanda Todd situation and the publicity her mother has shed on the subject. So I am supporting her based on my own experience that was positively influenced by the efforts of Carol Todd.

As for the traumas you may have suffered, my heart goes out to you. May you be happy.

From my heart to yours,

Joy

It's quite odd that a lot of people think that only a few people suffer any tragedies. You would be surprised by what I have encountered in my life - and it gives me quite a lot of insight into this issue.
My argument is that Carol Todd isn't really doing much to help. She has never acknowledged Amanda's online behaviour - choosing to overlook the fact that Amanda was actually banned from BlogTV for stripping, and allowing her to continue her online identities. Why does she never mention this?
In her own blog, she advises that things like drinking and taking drugs should simply be overlooked - in her own words 'it's not like she was driving a car or anything'. And remember - all the anti-bullying stuff was already there, she just managed to capitalise on it. Her fame came from what her daughter did, not her.
And it's strange - have you forgotten Marjorie Raymond? I expect so. Megan Meier? Jessica Laney? Jennifer Garcia?
I have empathy for people involved. Did you know that Amanda's boyfriend has been left believing that it was possibly his fault (as a 15 year old that's terrible)? And Mrs Todd has done nothing to contact him or help? And you must know that a young man - Kody Maxson - had death threats, without Mrs Todd raising as much as a finger in his defence?
Or that when Mrs Todd saw Amanda's video - which, let's face it, was a glorified suicide note - she says herself that, when she saw the 'I need someone' part, she never even asked about it?
Or that, in her blog, Mrs Todd refers to herself as feeling like the mother of a rockstar?
Really - I do suggest you do some homework before supporting this woman.

Dear Philip, While I appreciate your honesty, your tone is not really working for me. I don't claim to know the intricate details of Amanda Todd's story. What I honour in her mother is her ability to learn from the mistakes made by all involved in Amanda Todd's case. To say her mother let her die is honestly quite harsh. I question whether you have had someone close to you die. I have and in some ways, my actions contributed to my baby sister's death (I made her laugh...she choked and became ill, which caused her death). Even though I can logically look at the situation and understand that it was not directly my fault, the guilt over the years ate away at my spirit.

I like to think that Carol is trying to prevent other young women from going through the same thing. She is clearly taking action to create positive change in the world. In fact, her efforts benefited my community when the girl I was speaking of in the post was being cyber-bullied. I ask that, before responding to my comment, or commenting negatively in the future...you take a deep breath and try to find empathy for all people involved.
